dynamics Flashcards
What is a force?
A push or pull.
What are contact forces?
The force that exists within objects that are in contact. Normal reaction force, friction and tension.
What are non contact forces?
Does not require objects to be in contact to exist. Gravitational force, magnetic force, electric force
What are the effects of forces?
A body at rest moves, a moving body increases in speed, a moving body decreases in speed, a moving body changes direction
What are newton’s 3 laws?
1.every object will continue it’s state of rest or uniform motion unless a resultant force acts on it.
2.when a resultant force acts on an object of constant mass, the object will accelerate in the direction of the resultant force. Resultant force is f=ma where mass is in kg and acceleration is m/s^2
3.if body a exerts a force on body b, body b will exert an equal and opposite force on body a
What is friction?
The contact force that opposes or tends to oppose motion between surfaces in contact
What is friction?
The contact force that opposes or tends to oppose motion between surfaces in contact
