Dynamic Equilibrium In Water Cycle Flashcards
1
Q
Dynamic equilibrium
A
Balance between inputs (precipitation) and outputs (evaporation) in the system. Meaning stores stay the same. Natural balance.
2
Q
Explain the concept of dynamic equilibrium in the water cycle
A
- dynamic equilibrium refers to tendency towards natural state of balance within hydrological cycle
- cycle is closed system no inputs or outputs of water - recycled.
- drainage basin is open system where this is inputs and outputs subject to change.
- equilibrium is upset by extreme events - storms / drought.
- human activity can disrupt it too eg Dam leading to flooding.
3
Q
How is dynamic equilibrium
Upset ?
A
If one of the elements changes ie inputs increase without any corresponding change in outputs then equilibrium is upset.
