Dx and Tx Planning Flashcards
Three planes by which we analyze teeth.
Sagittal
Vertical
Transverse
Relationship of the upper and lower teeth in the sagittal dimension.
Class I, II, or III
Relationship of the upper and lower teeth in the vertical dimension.
Open or deep bite
Relationship of the upper and lower teeth in the Transverse dimension.
Buccal or lingual crossbite
ANB value of skeletal Class I
2 degrees
ANB > 2 is what skeletal class?
II
ANB < 2 is what skeletal class?
III
Line from columella to chin
S line
Line from tip of the nose to chin
E line
Distance between upper and lower lips to the S line
0 mm
Distance between upper lip to E line
-4 mm
Distance between lower lip and E-line
-2 mm
Sum total of the the mesio-distal width mesial to the permanent second molars.
Required Space
Available Space
Straight line approximation of the arch that you get by adding up all the 2-tooth segments.
When is extraction contraindicated in skeletal Class I, dentoalveolar I?
When upper and lower teeth are retrusive.
Tx for skeletal Class II, Dentoalveolar class II in growing patients.
Orthopedic appliances.
Tx for skeletal Class II, Dentoalveolar class II in non-growing patients.
Orthognathic surgery
Tx in which you’re aligning the jaws by growth guidance in growing patients.
Orthopedic tx
Tx in which you’re aligning the jaws in non-growing (adult) patients.
Orthognathic tx
Boys or girls have an earlier growth spirt?
Girls
Head Gear is worn for what class of patients?
Class II
Head gear cervical pull is for what?
Deep bite
Head gear high pull is for what?
Open bite
What time of the day is Growth Hormone released in growing kids?
During sleep
How much pressure does head gear put on?
16 oz
How long do you have to wear head gear?
12-14 hrs/day
Used in orthopedic tx of growing Class II patients with protrusive maxilla
Head gear
Fixed functional appliance that advanced the lower jaw.
Herbst appliance
Used in orthopedic tx of Class II growing patients with a retrusive mandible.
Herbst appliance
Used in Class III skeletal to pull the maxilla forward and reduce the growth of the mandible.
Face mask
Face mask uses what bone as anchorage?
Frontal bone
Face mask is AKA what?
Reverse head gear
Upper and Lower teeth both flare out (protrusive), or they both flare in (retrusive).
Skeletal Class I, Dentoalveolar I
If upper and lower teeth both flare out, what tx is indicated?
Extraction of premolars.
If upper and lower teeth both flare in (retrusive), what is contraindicated?
Extraction
If upper and lower teeth both flare in (retrusive), what is indicated?
Expansion
If upper and lower teeth both flare in, what is CONTRAindicated?
Extraction
Two types of skeletal class II, dentoalveolar Class II.
1) Mandibular teeth and mandible are retrusive.
2) Maxillary teeth are protrusive and mandibular teeth are retrusive.
How to fix skeletal class II, dentoalveolar Class II where the maxillary teeth are protrusive?
Extraction or distalization of maxillary teeth.
How to fix skeletal class II, dentoalveolar Class II where the mandibular teeth are retrusive?
1) Orthognathic surgery if non-growing to bring the mandible forward.
2) Orthopedic tx if growing.
