What is the diagnostic test for PE?
CTPA
What should be prescribed for patients with confirmed DVT?
How long should they stay on medication for?
ORAL anticoagulant e.g. rivoraxaban
At least 3 months
What should be suspected in patients with DVT with no obvious risk factors (unprovoked)?
Malignancy
Thrombophilia
What score system is used to identify DVT probability?
What score makes it likely/unlikely?
Wells Score
2+ = likely
>1 = unlikely
If patient presents with suspected DVT under what circumstances would they be urgently sent for same day assessment and management?
If pregnant/<6mnths postpartum
If DVT what investigation must be performed?
Leg ultrasound
If DVT is unlikely what investigation will still be carried out?
D-dimer
If D-dimer low and Wells score - DVT can be ruled out
What is the interim A/C therapy which patients should be put on whilst awaiting results?
Apixaban/rivaroxaban first line
When are IVC filters considered?
When someone has recurrent PE despite A/C treatment
