When does an Group 1 driver not need to contact the DVLA and if they are diabetic?
A
- Diet controlled
- Tablets with no risk of hypoglycaemia
- Non-insulin injectable medication that carries no risk of hypoglycaemia (Exenatide etc)

When does an Group 1 driver need to contact the DVLA if they are diabetic?
A
- If they are on insulin
- If they are on tablets that can cause hypoglycaemia (Sulphonylureas and Glinides (a.k.a. Meglitinides).

What requirements need to be met by diabetics using insulin or hypoglycaemic before they can have a Group 1 licence?
A
- No hypoglycemic episode in the last 12 months requiring someone to assist them.
- For insulin users only:
- They need to demonstrate full hypoglycaemic awareness.
- No visual impairment or complications that affect driving ability.

What standards need to be met before a diabetic (insulin or hypoglycaemic tablets) can drive an HGV (Group 2 Licence)?
A
- No severe hypoglycemic episode in the last 12 months.
- The driver has “full hypoglycemia awareness”
- Must show full control and monitor regularly. (At least 2 times daily)
- 3 months of recorded levels before application.
- They are aware of the consequences/risks of hypoglyaemic
- No other debarring complications of diabetes.

What forms need to be filled out for a diabetic who wants a Group 2 (HGV) license?
A
- They need to fill out a D2 form
- They will also be required to produce a D4 medical form.
