No more than one hypo in the last 12 months, and has to have been 3 months since the last one

When a patient with diabetes is ill, what happens to their blood sugar?
Become hyperglycaemic
What are the cardinal sick day rules?
Check blood glucose every 4 hours
Drink 3L of water a day
Keep taking medication as normal
If struggling to keep food down, have sugary drinks.
Extra Rules for Insulin Sick Day Rules?
If ketones present, take a corrective dose of insulin (Total dose divided by 6 (Up to 15 units))
Sick Day Criteria for Admission
Significant Ketosis
BM >20
Patient not able to keep fluids down or diorrhoea
Patient is vulnerable/alone
