1st unprovoked seizure
Inform DVLA; 6 months if no structural/EEG abnormalities, 12 months otherwise
Established epilepsy
May qualify for driving license if 12 months seizure free
Stroke/TIA
1 month, no need to inform DVLA if no residual deficit
Multiple TIAs
Inform DVLA, 3 months
Hypertension- group 2 drivers
Disqualified if persistent resting BP over than 180 systolic and.or 100 diastolic
Elective angioplasty
1 week
CABG
4 weeks
ACS
4 weeks; 1 week if successfully treated with PCI/angioplasty
ICD
Permanent bar for Group 2 drivers.
6 months if inserted for sustained ventricular arrythmia, 1 month if inserted prophylactically
Aortic aneurym
Disqualified if > 6.5cm
Heart transplant
6 weeks
Diabetes
12 months without any severe hypoglycaemic events; full awareness
Pyschiatric disorders generally
Need to inform DVLA other than mild cognitive impairment
Alcohol misuse
6 months
Alcohol dependency
1 year
