What is Dupuytren’s contracture?
A
Connective tissue disorder where the palmar fascia undergoes hyperplasia. Normal fascial bands form nodules and cords progressing to contractures are the MCP and PIP joints.

Pathology of Dupuytren’s contracture
A
Proliferation of myofibroblast cells and the production of abnormal collagen (type 3 rather than type 1)

A
Male Autosomal dominant Northern Europe/ Scandinavian descent Alcoholic cirrhosis Diabetes Peyronie's disease Ledderhose disease

Treatment of Dupuytren’s contracture
A
Any contracture at the PIP joint indicates surgery
More than 30 degrees of contracture at the MCP joint indicates surgery
