Copy
Duplicates an element (Ctrl+C)
Cut
Cut – Removes but stores in clipboard for later use (Ctrl+X)
Paste
Inserts element from the clipboard (Ctrl+V)
Text box
An editable frame that can filled with paragraphs of text.
It is used for extended text and can be found as a symbol containing the letter “T”.
Handles
Small nodes that allow you to grab and edit text boxes, images and shapes.
Colour fill
Applying colour to the inside of shapes or text.
Cropping
Square Crop – Adjusting the handles of an image removing unwanted space.
Full Crop – Removing the full background of an image.
Text Wrap
Making the edge of a text box follow around the path of a shape or image linking them together.
Flow text along a path
Making text travel along the pathway of a shape or line.
Bleed
When an image, a logo or a background image exceeds past the print edge.
Transparency
When an image or colour filled shape gradually or fully reduces in opacity (more see-through).
Drop shadow
An effect applied to shapes, text or images to add a shadow “lifting it off the page”
Rotate
The ability to adjust the angle of an element. It can be controlled by dragging the rotate handle or inputting a value in degrees.
Reverse
Light text on a dark background creating contrast.
Line
A straight or wavy line drawn by either the pencil or pen tool.
Grid
A visual overlay of a square pattern for use by graphic designers to be accurate.
Snap to grid
A tool which allows the nodes of shapes, text or images to jump and attach to specific parts of the grid.
Guidelines
A tool which allows the nodes of shapes, text or images to jump and attach to specific parts of the guidelines.
Serif
Serifs are small decorative flicks found at the ends of certain letters making them look formal and old-fashioned.
The serif flicks also make the fonts very readable when they are used in blocks of text. Serif is best to use in body text.
Sans Serif
Sans Serif fonts do not include these decorative flicks making them look informal, modern, elegant, simple.
Paper Sizing
DTP Software allows us to choose the exact size of paper for the job (A3 or A4 paper). A3 is double A4. The software can also allow us to change the papers orientation from portrait to landscape.
