Drugs Test 1 Flashcards
Zidovudine
aka AZT.
Class: nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor)
MOA: Thymidine analog that blocks RT at active site.
Efavirenz
Class: Non-nucleoside RT inhibitor (NNRTI).
MOA: Binds RT far from active site
Raltegrovir
Class: Entry inhibitor
MOA: inhibits catalytic activity of HIV integrase
Ritonavir
Class: Protease inhibitor
MOA: Inhibits protease that is needed for proper protein synthesis.
Maroviroc
Class: entry inhibitor
MOA: Chemokine receptor 5 antagonist which prevents entrance of HIV.
Foscarnet
Antiviral
MOA: structural mimic of the anion pyrophosphate that selectivelys inhibits the pyrophosphate binding site on viral DNA pol. at concentrations that don’t affect human DNA pol.
Cidofir
Inhibitor of viral DNA pol that has much higher affinity for viral DNA pol.
Ganciclovir/Acyclovir
Nucleotide analog that is phosphorylated by viral kinases and highly preferred by viral DNA pol. Terminates viral DNA replication.
Acyclovir - Thymidine Analog - Alpha Herpes Viruses
Ganciclovir - Guanosine Analog - Beta and Gamma Herpes viruses
