Drugs of abuse Flashcards
MOA of Cocaine
Inhibits NET
increasing DA
MOA of Amphetamine, methamphetamine
Causes intracellular release of dopamine, NE and serotonin within the terminal
MAO inhibition
Facilitates “reverse transport” of neurotransmitter back into the cleft
MOA of Bath salt
Causes intracellular release of dopamine, NE and serotonin within the terminal
MAO inhibition
Facilitates “reverse transport” of neurotransmitter back into the cleft
MOA of Ecstasy (MDMA)
Causes intracellular release of serotonin within the terminal
MAO inhibition
Facilitates “reverse transport” of serotonin back into the cleft
MOA of PCP/Ketamine
NMDA receptor antagonist
MOA of Marijuana
Tetrahydrocanabinol (THC)
MOA of Dronabinol
Synthetic, partial agonist for CB1 receptor
MOA of Synthetic cannabinoid
Spice
K2
Full cannabinoid receptor agonist
CBD does not contain THC, so has not psychoactive effects
ADR of Cocaine (terms of NE, DA, serotonin)
Increase NE: heart contraction and heart rate increase, hypertension, mydriasis, excitation, hyperactivity
Increase DA: psychotic episode, paranoia, hallucinations, prolactin decreases
Increase serotonin: aggressive, dyskinesia, decrease appetite
