Drugs mechanism of action Flashcards
Clopidogrel
ADP (Adenosine-diphosphate receptor) Antagonist
Aspirin
cyclo-oxygenase inhibitor.
Dabigatran and bivalirudin
thrombin inhibitors.
Tirofiban and abciximab
are glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors.
Warfarin inhibits
production of factors II, VII, IX and X (1972)
inhibiting epoxide reductase preventing Vitamin K from being converted to its activated form
Dipyridamole
Antiplatelet that is combined with aspirin.
FACT: used for ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack.
Amiodarone
Blocking potassium channels which inhibits repolarisation and hence prolongs the action potential.
Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors
inhibit the conversion angiotensin I to angiotensin II
Furosemide
inhibits the Na-K-Cl cotransporter in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle
Nicorandil
potassium-channel activator —> mediated vasodilation is through activation of guanylyl cyclase which results in increase cGMP
Coronary artery bypass procedure
Great saphenous vein –> using a graft from the internal mammary artery ( bypassing the stenosed coronary vasculature)
