- Proteins that facilitate communication between the gut and the brain
- Orginally used to treat Type 2 Diabetes

2 Types of Incretins:
A
- Glucagon- like Peptides (GLP-1)
- Glucose- dependent insulinotropic peptide (GIP)
-These drugs increase insulin secretion, decrease glucagon secretion, delay gastric secretions and reduce appetite.

Liraglutide:
A
- Glucagon- like peptide agonist (incretin)
- Delays gastric emptying/ promotes satiety
- Reduces appetite
- MUST be injected
- AE’s: Pancreatitis (inflammation of the Pancreas)
- Only incretin that been approved for Obesity

GI Lipase Inhibitors:
A
- Lipases normally break down fat molecules for absorption
- GI Lipase inhibitors reduce fat absorption, as well as they are likely to reduce fat intake
- ->Horrible GI tract side effects: Diarrhea
