  1. Glucagon- like Peptides (GLP-1)
  2. Glucose- dependent insulinotropic peptide (GIP)

-These drugs increase insulin secretion, decrease glucagon secretion, delay gastric secretions and reduce appetite.

Liraglutide:

A
  • Glucagon- like peptide agonist (incretin)
  • Delays gastric emptying/ promotes satiety
  • Reduces appetite
  • MUST be injected
  • AE’s: Pancreatitis (inflammation of the Pancreas)
  • Only incretin that been approved for Obesity

  • Lipases normally break down fat molecules for absorption
  • GI Lipase inhibitors reduce fat absorption, as well as they are likely to reduce fat intake
  • ->Horrible GI tract side effects: Diarrhea
