How do nitrates work?

A
  • GTN - fast acting, sublingual tablet or spray. Rapidly metabolised by liver.
  • Release nitrogen oxide (NO) which increases cGMP in muscle cells causing them to relax.
  • Reduces heart filling/contraction strength.
  • Caution with hypertension drugs + viagra
