Drugs Affecting Haemostasis Flashcards
What is the function of tranexamic acid?
Tranexamic Acid is an anti-fibrinolytic drug that inhibits the activation of plasminogen to plasmin. It is used in trauma, bleeding, and post-operatively within 3-4 hours
What is the function of warfarin?
Standard oral anticoagulant that inhibits the production of Vitamin K in reduced form, which in turn stops production of clotting factors II, VII, IX, and X
What drugs can increase the effects of warfarin?
Amoxicillin because it reduces Vitamin K in the gut
Erythromycin, Statins, and Acute Alcohol Intake through enzyme inhibition
Aspirin, Clopidogrel, NSAIDs - increase bleeding risk
What drugs can decrease the effects of warfarin?
Rifampicin, Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, Chronic Alcohol Intake
