DRUGS Flashcards
What is propanolol?
Generalised beta-antagonist; best we have for beta2s but not clinically useful
What is salbutamol?
A beta2 agonist. it is specific and usually used to treat asthma
What is clonidine?
An alpha2 agonist. Used to inhibit SNS transmission e.g sedation.
What is yohimbine?
An alpha2 antagonist. Used to reverse effects of clonidine
What is isoprenaline?
A general beta-adrenoceptor agonist. Not good for asthma as increases HR too much
What is atenolol?
A specific beta1 antagonist - slows HR - used for hypertension
What is dobutamine?
A specific beta1 agonist - increases HR - use in heart failure
What is phenylephrine?
A specific alpha1 agonist - used as a decongestant
What is phentolamine?
A non-specific alpha-adrenoceptor antagonist
What is prazosin?
A specific alpha-1 antagonist - useful in hypertension though risk of large fluctuations in blood pressure when change posture, causing dizziness and fainting
What are two drugs that inhibit NA uptake by presynaptic neuron?
Cocaine, desipramine
What is an example of a MAO blocker?
Moclobemide
What is are two examples of indirectly acting sympathomimetics?
Amphetamine, ephedrine
What are two muscarinic AChR antagonists?
Atropine, hyoscine, ipratopium
What are three muscarinic AChR agonists?
pilocarpine, carbachol, bethanecol
