Drugs Flashcards
Salbutamol?
Selective agonist at B2 adrenergic- relief for asthma (terbutaline does the same)
Pilocarpine?
Muscarinic agonist , eye drops to treat gluacoma
What is an adrenergic receptor?
Sympathetic receptor on the target cell, between this and the post synaptic neuron.
Atropine?
Antagonist at Muscarinic receptor. Inhibits secretion, smooth muscle relaxes, pupil dilation and head rate increase (Inhibits parasympathetic therefore sympathetic like symptoms)
What is a muscarinic receptor?
Parasympathetic receptor on the target cell, between this and the post synaptic neuron. (alsosweat glands of the sympathetic)
What are the receptors on the post synaptic neurons of the autonomic nervous system?
Nicotinic.
What are the neurotransmitters at a adrenergic synapse?
Noradrenaline and Ach
What is the neurotransmitter at the nicotinic synapse? What 2 main drugs activate/inhibit this?
Acetyl Choline
Nicotine activates and Curare inhibits. (also Tubocurarine)
What receptor does cocaine and amphetamines work at? Agonist or antagonist?
Adrenergic. Agonist.
Anticholinergics examples? What receptor?
LSD, KET- blocks Ach, antagonist of Muscarinic receptors- inhibits parasympathetic
Apamin?
In bee venom. Acts at ion channels binding to K channels so can’t repolarise so stays depolarised causing pain.
GABA?
Nicotinic/ GABAergic receptor agonist. Opens ion channels of anions (-) e.g. Cl- which inhibit depolarisation. AT inhibitory synapses in the brain
Name all of the Adrenergic agonists? (10)
Salbutamol, Terbutaline, Adrenaline, Cocaine, Amphetamines, Dopamine, Nasal Congesters - Ephedrine and Phenylephrine, Dobutamine, Clonidine
Name the Adrenergic antagonists? (3)
Beta blockers- Atenolol and Propranolol,
& Prazosin.
Adrenaline? One example of specific use also.
Adrenergic agonist. Non selective at both alpha and Beta receptors. Vasopressor (constricts blood vessels), dilates bronchi, blood pressure increase (sympathetic symptoms)
Epi-pen: treats anaphylactic shock
