What are diuretics?
meds that stimulate the kidneys to produce more urine. Flush excess fluid and mineral out of system
What is the action of diuretics?
Decrease water and salt reabsorption. Remove excess water from Extra cellular space. Decrease workload on ❤. Selective electrolyte removal.
What are indications for Diuretics?
Hypertension - bring bp down, edema, CHF, cerebral edema and glaucoma
What is an example of Renal Tubule diuretic?
Furosemide (Lasix)
What is the classification of Lasix?
Loop diuretic, k+ wasting diuretic
What is the action of Lasix? And where does it occur?
Block Na & h20 reabsorption in loop of henle of nephron
What are the side effects of Lasix?
Hypokalemia, excessive h20 loss, loss of Ca, Mg, and H
What are the adverse effects of Lasix?
Cardiac arrest & shock
