Drugs Flashcards
diptheria toxin
Compound affecting protein synthesis.
Inactivation of ER-2 (elongation factor) by ADP-ribosylation, needed for translocation.
Streptomycin (aminglycoside)
Antibiotic inhibition of initiation.
Prevents assembly of ribosome. Binds to 30s subunit.
Tetracycline
Antibiotic inhibition of initiation.
Block elongation by preventing aminoacyl-tRNA access to A-site.
Erythromycin (macrolide)
Antibiotic inhibition of initiation.
Binds to 50s subunit of the complete 70s ribosome.
Blocks ribosome translocation.
Chloramphenicol
Antibiotic inhibition of initiation.
Inhibits peptidyl transferase activity in PROKARYOTES.
At high levels may inhibit mitochondrial translation.
(Eukaryotes=cycloheximide)
Cycloheximide
Antibiotic inhibition of initiation.
Inhibits EUKARYOTIC peptidyl transferase activity.
(Prokaryotes=chloramphenicol)
Puromycin
Antibiotic inhibition of initiation.
Causes premature termination of translation in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes.
