Drugs Flashcards
brimonidine
adrenergic agonist, catecholamine
alpha 2 selective
decrease BP and HR, causes vasoconstriction
hypertension
clonidine
adrenergic agonist, catecholamine
alpha 2 selective
decrease Bp and HR, doesn’t cause vasoconstriciton
dry mouth, dedation, impotence, withdrawal, dramatic rebound HTN when stopped suddenly
hypertension
isoproterenol
beta adrenergic agonist, catecholamine
non selective
stimulation of autonomic receptors
cardiovascular, asthma
epinephrine/norepineprine
adrenergic agonsit, endogenous ligand, catecholamine
non selective
epi works on beta 2, NE doesn’t so safe for heart contractive w/o relaxation of lungs
heart and lungs; NE: ADHD, depression
tetrahydrolozine
adrenergic agonist, noncatecholamine
alpha agonist
constricts BV o reduce red eye
phenylephrine/pseudoephedrine
adrenergice agonist, noncatecholamine
alpha 2 agonist
decongestant, stimulation of automonic receptors, alpha and beta stimulation
albuterol
adrenergic agonist, noncatecholamine
beta2 agonist
smooth muscle relaxation in lungs-bronchodialtion
asthma and COPD treatment
imipramine
- tricyclic antidepressant/adrenergic reuptake inhibitor
- block reuptake transporter (amine uptake pump) on pre synaptic cell and prevents NE from being taken from synaptic space and brought to pre-syn
- effect on neurons, not so much muscles
prazosin
- tamusolin in elderly men
- alpha-adrenergic antagonist
- alpha 1 selective (blocker), sympathoplegic, acts on arterioles
- adrenoreceptor blocker, prevents contraction, blockage of autonomic receptors (alpha), dilate vessels and blocs sympathetic system
- mild tachycardia (abnormal heartrate), reduced sympathetic tone
- benign prostate hyperplasia (prevent urine), mild HT as monotherapy, mod/sev HT (beta1 combo therapy)
propanolol
- beta-adrenergic antagonist
- non selective, beta blocker
- contracts bronchia smooth muscle, relaxes heart, decrease HR and BP, blocakde of automonic receptors
- orthostatic hypotension, tachycardia, HA
- glaucoma, silent angia, acute coronary syndrome, cardiac arrhythmia
labetalol
alpha 1 and beta adrenergic antagonist
- non selective, sympathaloplegic
- adrenoreceptor blocker, prevents contraction, blocks alpha1 receptor
- moderate toxicity, asthma, bradycardia, heart failure
- mild HT as monotherapy, mod/sev HT (beta 1-combo therapy)
atenolol (metaprolol)
beta-adrenergic antagonist
- beta 1 selective beta blocker
- reduction in BP, reduction in cardiac work
- orthostatic hypotension, tachycardia, HA,
- silent angia, acute coronary syndrome, cardiac arrhythmia
