drugs Flashcards
1
Q
rompun
A
xylazine hydrochloride
stimulates alpha 2 adrenergic receptors
best effect 15-20 mins, duration of analgesia 15-30mins
causes drop in BP + temp
if overdose = respiratory and circulatory depression
contraindication = exhaustion, liver/kidney damage, stress
antidote = anti sedan
2
Q
xylazine HCL injection
A
- for use in cervidae: fallow deer, mule deer
- sedative, analgesic and muscle relaxant
- 10-15 mins IM in horses and cervidae within 3-5 mins
- 1-2 hrs and analgesic 15-30mins
- xylazineHCL, decreases HR
- side effects: muscle tremors, bradycardia
- precautions: depressed respiration, heart disease… shock
- don’t use in conjunction with transuqilisers
- if animal has been underused, advisable to wait 1hr before readminsteration
- shouldn’t be used on domestic food-producing animals
3
Q
ketamine hydrochloride
A
- rapid acting dissociative drug
- profound analgesia
- respiratory distress

Q
zoletil
A
- solid analgesia and rapid cataleptic anaesthesia, sedation
- induction: 3-5 min and full action 10-15min
- hypersalivation, hypertension
- combine with atropine sulphate, rompun
- contraindication: damage to heart and respiratory system
- antidote: flumazenil, antisisedan
5
Q
domosedan
A
- IM, IV slow
- agonist of alpha two adrenergic receptor
- slows heart rate
- induction 2-19min, full action 15-30min
- hyperglycaemia and frequent urination with IV
- avoid contact with skin and MM, starve animals 12 hrs prior to administration
- antidote: at overdose, atropine
6
Q
domitor
A
- IM, SC, IV
- alpha2 adrenergic receptor
- 15-30 min
- causes bradycardia, bradypnea, AV block
- combine: pre med: thiopentone
- contraindication: pregnant,y sympathomimetics
- antidotes: antisedane
7
Q
sedaline
A
- IM, IV, SC
- fast - IM, SC, 15-20 mins small animals
- 30-60min large
- IV 5 min small
- sedation for 6-12 hrs, calming
- consciousness remains preserved
- bradypnea, tachycardia, hypotension
- contraindications: severe anaemia, shock
8
Q
antisedan
A
- promotes release of noradrenaline, rapid resorption of IM - full action 10-15 min
- application 15-60min after domitor
- after domitor, transient hypertension
- overdose: reversible hyperactivity
- contraindication: cachexia
