A

xylazine hydrochloride
stimulates alpha 2 adrenergic receptors
best effect 15-20 mins, duration of analgesia 15-30mins
causes drop in BP + temp
if overdose = respiratory and circulatory depression
contraindication = exhaustion, liver/kidney damage, stress
antidote = anti sedan

xylazine HCL injection

A
  • for use in cervidae: fallow deer, mule deer
  • sedative, analgesic and muscle relaxant
  • 10-15 mins IM in horses and cervidae within 3-5 mins
  • 1-2 hrs and analgesic 15-30mins
  • xylazineHCL, decreases HR
  • side effects: muscle tremors, bradycardia
  • precautions: depressed respiration, heart disease… shock
  • don’t use in conjunction with transuqilisers
  • if animal has been underused, advisable to wait 1hr before readminsteration
  • shouldn’t be used on domestic food-producing animals

  • hypersalivation, hypertension
  • combine with atropine sulphate, rompun
  • contraindication: damage to heart and respiratory system
  • antidote: flumazenil, antisisedan

  • hyperglycaemia and frequent urination with IV
