What test do you use for drugged drivers?
The CIT or “Compulsory Impairment Test”
Who can carry out a CIT or “Compulsory Impairment Test”?
a trained person only
What sort of test is it?
It is a subjective test and completing it must be to the satisfaction of the person administrating the test.
If it is not completed correctly, then the person is deemed impaired.
Drivers can be impaired due to what?
Alcohol, Drugs
Medical Factors (Diabetes etc)
Mental Fatigue or State
When can a charge be laid ?
No charges can be laid against a driver until several weeks after the offence when blood results are obtained.
How do you identify drug effect drivers?
You must have GCTS
GCTS • While in vehicle
Weaving across road Straddling centre line No lights Striking curb Stopping abruptly.
GCTS * Drivers Actions
Slurred speech
Bloodshot eyes
Lack of balance
Flushed skin
A person who drives or attempts to drive a motor vehicle on a road commits an offence if:
Section 57A – Driving while Impaired
Section 58 – Drives / Attempts to drive under the influence of Drink or Drug’s
Land Transport Act 1998
