ANALGESIC
A drug that interferes with the perception of pain, or that relieves pain without the loss of consciousness
(Asprin, ibuprophen)
ALKALINIZING AGENT
An agent that conbines with hydrogen ion to increase blood pH or make it more alkaline
ANTACID
An alkaline substance that may be used to “buffer” pH. Used for the relief of syptoms associated with hyperacidity and peptic ulcer disease
ANTIANGINAL
A home medication used to treat angina by dialating systemic and coronary arteries and decreasing vascular resistance. Dialating systemic vessels decreases preload and afterload, decreasing stress on the heart
ANTIBIOTIC
A drug used to stop the growth of (bacteriostatic) or kill (bacteriocidal) bacteria
