Butyrophenone antipsychotic/ antiemetic related to haloperidol
Droperidol (Inapsine)
Mechanism of Action
Blocks drugs that act on the chemoreceptor trigger zone (CTZ).
Mild alpha adrenergic blocking properties and direct vasodilation may cause hypotension.
Acts at the subcortical level to produce sedation and reduce anxiety and minor activities without inducing sleep.

Acute psychosis, nausea/vomiting

Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, EPS/ dystonia, dizziness, restlessness, hypotension, tachycardia.

Special Considerations
“Black Box Warning” regarding prolonged QT interval time. Monitor vital signs and ECG.
