What is a Newtonian Fluid?

Where there is a linear relationship between shear stress and shear strain

What are 3 types of Non-Newtonian Fluid?
A
- Bingham plastic fluid (time independent)
- Power law fluid (time independent)
- Time dependent fluid (viscosity changes with the duration of the shear)

What are the characteristics of the Bingham plastic fluid?
A
Deformation takes place after a minimum value of shear stress (Yield Point), beyond this the relationship between stress and strain is linear with constant viscosity, known as plastic viscosity
