Drag Flashcards
Define Drag
A type of resistance that an aircraft experiences as it moves through the air
Define Induced Drag
A type of drag that is created as a result of lift (example: when airfoil goes through ailerons or elevators they produce Induced Drag which causes Lift)
Define Parasite Drag
It is the resistance caused by the non-lifting parts of an airplane, like its body and various components as they move through the air.
How many different forms of Parasite Drag are there?
3
What are the type of Drag that fall under the Parasite Drag category
Skin Fraction Drag, Form Drag, and Interference Drag.
Define Skin Fraction Drag
A type of resistance caused by the aircrafts surface being rough. This affects the aircraft by making it harder for the aircraft to move forward efficiently through the air.
Define Form drag
A type of resistance that an aircraft experiences because of its shape and or size of the aircraft and the way the air flows around it.
Define Interference Drag
A type of reisistance that only occurs when different parts of an aircraft disrupt the smooth flow of air around each other.
