When and where was MLK born?
He was born on the 15th of January 1929 in Atlanta Georgia.
When did he train to become a Baptist minister?
In 1948 he graduated from Morehouse College with a degree in sociology and in 1951 he trained as a Baptist minister.
When did he complete his doctorate at University?
In 1955 he completed his doctorate at Boston University and in the same year Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat and King is chosen to lead the Montgomery Improvement Association.
When was MLK arrested?
MLK was arrested in 1956 because he was involved with the bus boycott, and in 1957 he was elected president of The Southern Leadership Conference.
When did MLK and his wife go to India?
In 1957 they visit India and see the positive effects of Gandhi’s non-violent action. Three years later he becomes the minister of Ebenezer Baptist Church, but in 1963 he gets arrested again and is sent to Birmingham, Mississippi, jail.

He linked the Black Community’s struggle to the struggle of the Israelites. He said a world where there is no racism is the promised land.

He said that he had been to the mountaintop, the mountaintop being the top of mount Carmel where Moses collected the ten commandments. He called his teaching on the Kingdom of God as the “New Jerusalem”.

King said that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. He also argued that breaking a human law may be justified if a law breaker does so lovingly.
Why was MLK a pacifist?
King was a pacifist because he believed heavily in Christianity and the main figure in Christianity he looked at was Jesus. Jesus was an absolute pacifist.

MLK visited India in 1957 and saw the positive effects of Gandhi’s non-violent protests. Ghandi was an absolute pacifist and made a huge difference. King saw this idea and followed in his footsteps.
