What is a hypertension urgency?
24-36 hours to lower it because there are no signs of end organ damage
What is chvostek sign?
Clinical sign of existing nerve hyperexcitability seen in hypocalcemia
What would be used to treat hyperkalemia?
Insulin, glucose, calcium, albuterol and maybe bicarb.
What do you used to figure out if you should give a patient who isnt urinating fluids or not?
Fractional Na
Less than 1% then its pre-renal and okay to give fluids
More than 3% its an intrarenal problem and DONT give fluids
What is a hypertension emergency?
Need to lower blood pressure right away because you are seeing end organ damage. papilla edema, chest pain, MI, renal signs. NOT BAISED ON A NUMBER
What can indicated hyperkalemia on an ECG?
Tall peaked T waves
Microcytic hypochronic patient comes in, what do i work them up for?
Blood loss anemia (chronic blood loss)
Work them up for a tumor especially in GI
Normocytic nomochromic anemia patient comes in what could be suspected?
Anemia of chronic renal failure, decreased erythropoietin
Macrocytic anemia
Failure to absorb B12 and folic acid
If urine is concentrated and dark, what is the expected sp. gravity?
up at the high end, the sp. gravity increases because its holding onto water
