Dr. Bitters section Flashcards
What two attachments make form the biologic width?
Connective tissue and epithelial attachment form the biological width.
What is the average biologic width
2mm
When does hemorrhagic exudate occur?
Hemorrhagic exudate does NOT occur with gentle probing UNLESS perio or systemic disease is present
Gingivitis
Inflammatory/Immune response to microbes w/in gingiva
Episodic or Reversible
Edema, Bleeding (hemorrhagic exudate), calculus or plaque with NO radiographic evidence of bone loss.
Don’t forget, you have chronic and acute gingivitis?
Acute - sudden and short, PAIN, severe inflammation
Chronic - long, fewer symptoms, most commonly diagnosed
What is recurrent gingivitis?
reappears after having been eliminated by Tx.
May vary in clinical couse - acute to chronic, depending on microbial virulence and host response
What is the sequence of plaque biofilm development and maturation?
Planktonic organisms attach from saliva
Early colonizers
Proliferation and continuing colonization/maturation
Seeding and DISPERSAL
Gingival bleeding on probing indicates an inflammatory lesion both in the ___ and the ______.
BOP indicates and inflammatory lesion between the EPITHELIUM and the CONNECTIVE TISSUE.
