What features did William Pitt’s government add to Dover Castle and why?
Pitt spent a large sum of money adding gun batteries, new barracks and other defences to protect Dover during to the growing threat from Napoleon (French invasion)

Used by both the Navy and Army to protect the south-coast from seaborne invasion.

The Fire Command Post was used by the Army to protect the fortress and Admiralty harbour from sea attacks 24 hours a day
