Doppler Flashcards
The rate of change of the displacement, the difference between the final and initial position of an object.
Velocity
The direction that a fluid is travelling.
Flow
A flow with periodic variations
Pulsatile Flow
Blood moves with a varying velocity, such as changes that occur with respiration.
Phasic Flow
When blood moves at the same speed
Steady flow
A way to describe venous or arterial flow that moves in a uniform direction and moves in concentric rings
Laminar Flow
Flow with all fluid portions traveling with the SAME flow speed and direction.
Plug Flow
Any flow that is not in a uniform direction; chaotic, random blood flow moving at different speeds and different directions.
Turbulent Flow
The unusual sound that blood makes when it rushes past an obstruction in an artery when the sound is auscultation.
Bruit.
A palpable vibration.
Thrill
A dimension less quantity that is used to help predict similar flow patterns in different fluid flow situations.
Reynolds Number (Re)
Any change in energy over time or space.
Energy Gradient
Kinetic, Pressure, Gravitational
Forms of energy.
Viscous, frictional, inertial
Energy losses in circulation.
An abnormal narrowing of a blood vessel.
Stenosis
An increase in the speed of a fluid occurs simultaneously with a drop in pressure.
Bernoulli’s Principle
The current through a conductor between two points is directly proportional to the potential difference across the two points
Ohm’s Law
In a fluid at rest, all frictional stresses vanish
Hydrostatic Pressure.
Quiet inspiration is associated with a fall in femoral venous blood flow.
