Dopaminergic drugs Flashcards
What are selegiline/ rasagiline?
MOAb inhibitors. Stop dopamine being degraded in presynaptic neurone. Stop conversion to DOPAC
What is tolcapone?
COMT inhibitor. stops dopamine degradation from DOPAC to homovanillic acid. Can alleviate LDOPA side effects.
What is tetrabenzine?
Inhibits vesicular storage of dopamine by inhibiting VMAT2. Huntington’s treatment
What is amantadine?
Inhibits amine uptake, inhibits MOAs, up monoamines. Parkinson’s
What is L-DOPA?
Precursor. Converted by decarboxylase to dopamine. Contains peripheral decarboxylase inhibitor to prevent effect outside BBB
What is apomorphine?
Post synaptic dopamine agonist. Parkinson’s. Potent emetic
What is rotigotine?
Post synaptic receptor agonist. Patch. Parkinson’s
What is the mechanism of chlorpromazine, haloperidol, clozapine?
Post synaptic dopamine receptor antagonists. Higher D2 than D1 affinity. Schizophrenia
