-pattern of assaultive and coercive behaviors resulting in power and control over an intimate partner.

A
1st-develop a safety plan with the client
- providing psychoeducation to the victim of domestic violence can help him or her understand the dynamics of abuse and not feel isolated.
- meet the client where they are at do not urge client to leave the abuser this may re-traumatize the victim and increase feelings of shame.

Cycle of Violence Tension Building
A
- Minor incidents of physical/emotional abuse.
- Victim feels growing tension.
- Victim tries to control situation to avoid violence.
- “Walking on eggshells.” Victim cannot control abuser.
- Longest phase.

A
-The actual abuse:physical, sexual, emotional, verbal inc.

Cycle of Violence-Honeymoon Phase
A
- Abuser is sorry, apologetic, and may display regret.
- Abuser makes promises and may say it won’t happen again.
- This phase often disappears
