A

1st-develop a safety plan with the client

  • providing psychoeducation to the victim of domestic violence can help him or her understand the dynamics of abuse and not feel isolated.
  • meet the client where they are at do not urge client to leave the abuser this may re-traumatize the victim and increase feelings of shame.

Cycle of Violence Tension Building

A
  • Minor incidents of physical/emotional abuse.
  • Victim feels growing tension.
  • Victim tries to control situation to avoid violence.
  • “Walking on eggshells.” Victim cannot control abuser.
  • Longest phase.
