A
  • defined by the home office (2013) as ‘controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse’
  • includes psychological, physical, sexual, financial and emotional abuse
  • sexual violence is common in marriage - 1 in 4 women get raped in marriage (rape in marriage became criminalised in 1991)

  • two thirds of all victims do not report domestic violence
  • on average a woman suffers 35 assaults before making a report
