Traumatic injuries i.e fractures/miscarriage
Somatic problems or chronic illness i.e IBS, headaches
Psychological or psychosocial problems i.e depression, PTSD

What can you do as GPs to respond to domestic abuse?
Display Helpline posters and contact cards
Focus on patient’s safety
Ask direct questions
Acknowledge and be clear that the behaviour is not okay
What should you not do?
Do not ask about domestic abuse in front of family members
Do not tell them what to do - empower them
Do not assume someone will take care of things
What do you do for risk stratification?
Standard/Medium - refer to domestic abuse services
High - Refer to Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC)/ IDVAS

Not witnessed by anyone else
Repeated admissions to GP + A and E
Multiple minor injuries
