Define Domestic Abuse
Behaviour of a person [a] towards another person [b] is domestic abuse if
Both [a] and [b] are aged 16 or over
AND
are personally connected
AND
The behaviour consists of any:
Physical or sexual abuse
Violent or threatening behaviour
Controlling or coercive behaviour
Economic abuse
Emotional abuse
Psychological Abuse
Any other abuse
AND
It does not matter whether this behaviour is a single incident or a course of conduct.
What is the DASH model?
Stands for Domestic Abuse Stalking and Harassment Model.
It includes honour-based abuse.
The purpose of the DASH model is:
- To allow frontline workers and specialist practitioners to identify and risk assess cases of domestic abuse, stalking and harassment and honour-based abuse.
- Enables us to share information between relevant parties, such as MARACs.
- Allows us to make evidence-based decisions and decide on the best course of action.
- Contributes to extensive research of serious DA, S&H and HBA incidents.
Define S75A Serious Crime Act 2015
A person [a] commits the offence if:
[a] intentionally strangles another person [b]
or
[a] does any act which
- affects [b]s ability to breathe
or
- constitutes to battery of [b]
Define S75A(2) SCA 2015
Defence
It is a defence under this section for [a] to show that [b] consented to the strangulation or any other act.
Define S75A(3) SCA 2015
Subsection 2 does not apply if
[b] suffers serious harm as a result of the strangulation or any other act
and
[a] either
intended to cause [b] serious harm
or
was reckless as to whether [b] would suffer serious harm
What is a PPN?
Public Protection Notification
It is used to update and share information with partner agencies for them to provide further assistance to the victim and other vulnerable persons.
What must be submitted for every DASH incident?
PPN
Explain the PPN process.
A PPN form consists of 29 questions which are used to identify, assess and manage the risk to the victim.
It should be submitted to the Public Protection Unit for review, who will then share the PPN with relevant agencies such as social services, healthcare, education etc.
