Teaching high frequency sight words
A
- visual: use of color to help learn vowel digraphs Ex. “said” - student write word 10 times, writing “a” in red and “I” in green.
- auditory - write word 10 times, pronouncing word each time
- tactile - write word on textured surface such as desk top with finger.

The lesson starts with a sentence, then looks at words, and end up with the sound-symbol relationship that is the focus of the lesson.

The lesson starts with the sound and then children blend the sounds to build words.

A
Children are challenged to place cards with words on them in appropriate categories. Students could put the short a words (cat) in one box, and they put the long a words (day) in another .

A
- select words
- write words in a sentence, in a somewhat story format, with target words underlined
- teacher reads sentences aloud, pointing to each word
- children then read the story aloud with the teacher
