Work Hardening
Help workers return to their pre-injury work in a safe and timely manner by focusing on work endurance by progressively increasing tolerance with conditioning exercises: based on identified job functions
Work Conditioning
Designed to restore functions to enable the injured worker to returned to work
Functional Independence Measures Instrument (FIM)
18 item instrument used in the inpatient rehab setting and measures the individual’s level of independence/dependence in the areas of ADLs
Work Adjustment
Focus on attitude, behavior, and social skills for clients with behavioral health issues
Job Analysis
Collecting data to define a person’s job requirements and essential/non-essential job duties
Job Modication
Altering environment to accomodate physcial/mental limitations
Transitional Work Duty (TWD)
Able to work but at a lower capacity
Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)
Assesses individual’s physical capacities and functional abilities to match with demands of specific job
Job Accommodation
Reasonable adjustment to job that makes it possible for a disabled person to do their job tasks
Assistive Device
Any tool used to assist a person to perform a task
Assistive Technology
Any equipment used to increase/maintain functional capabilities of individuals with disabilties
Ergonomics
Scientific discipline concerned with understanding interactions between humans and other elements of a system (to reduce stress and eliminate injuries)

Federal law that prohibits discrimination against qualified individuals with disabilties (protects person, not disability)
