A
  • Fluency includes all components of reading (decoding, comprehension, word analysis skills, vocabulary, background knowledge) so ….Text MUST be at students’ independent reading level (show Running record)
  • If student is weak in word analysis skills, stops to decode frequently and lacks familiarity of content vocabulary then.. text is too hard to meet fluency rate
  • Independent silent reading is NOT effective if the student struggles with above. Students reading out loud is best.
