Domain 2 - Effective Instructional Delivery Flashcards
Domain 2 - Effective Instructional Delivery Standards
(five)
Effective instructional delivery . . .
- communicates effectively
- efficient use of class time
- contains clear and focused instruction
- employs effective questioning techniques
- builds students’ study skills
Order of Bloom’s Taxonomy of learning from the base of the pyramid to the top. (Six levels)
Knowledge –> Comprehension –> Application –> Analysis –> Synthesis –> Evaluation
Bloom’s Taxonomy Evaluation
Development of opinions, judgments, or decisions. Is this right based on what I know?
Evaluate the merit something new based on understanding of other content
Bloom’s Taxonomy Synthesis
Using new and creative applications of prior knowledge and skills.
Combining two or more disparate ideas to create something new.
Bloom’s Taxonomy Analysis
Decomposing materials into their component parts so they can be examined and understood.
Dissection
Bloom’s Taxonomy Application
Use information in new situations
Bloom’s Taxonomy Comprehension
Explain ideas or concepts
Bloom’s Taxonomy Knowledge
Remembering basic facts
What is the best way to learn a skill that includes several steps?
Learning a skill that includes several steps or parts is best approached through mastering a few steps at a time.
Inductive Reasoning
deriving a rule based on examples.
e.g. The class studies several totalitarian regimes and develops a list of general rules that apply to all dictatorships.
Deductive Reasoning
Applies a rule to examples
e.g. The class learns a general model of totalitarian government and then applies it to various regimes to see if they fit the definition.
What are mnemonic devices most useful for?
Mnemonic devices are helpful in teaching a specific ordered set of information, such as the order of the planets from the sun or order of notes on a musical line.
What is the best way to follow up an inquiry activity like a lab?
Following inquiry-based instruction with direct instruction helps ensure that all students understand what has occurred during the inquiry portion. It also allows the teacher to go further in depth on the topic the students explored
What is active teaching?
an instructional method that involves students in the learning process. In active teaching, students are encouraged to think, discuss, investigate, and create.
Active learning can include activities like:
Classroom debates
Group work
Leading discussions
Flipped classrooms
Polling and clickers
Teaching with cases
Problem solving
What is inquiry learning?
discovery learning
Students use the materials themselves to discover a concept in a structured lesson.
