Where do you connect to live data?
- Start Page
- Connect Pane on the left
- Choose File type or
- Recent Server or common Server
What is the advantage of using an extract over a live connection?
- Supports large data sets
- Improves Performance
- Supports additional functionalities like count distinct
- Provides offline access to data
How do you create an extract?
- Set up live connection

How can an extract be stored?
- In Logical Tables
- In Physical Tables
What is an .tds file?
Contains only info you need to connect to the datasource:
- Datasource type
- Connection info from the datasource page
- Groups, sets, calculated fields, bins
- Default field properties
How do you create an .tds file?
- Open the worksheet with the connection
- At the top of the data pane, right click name of data source, then “Add to saved data sources”
- Enter a file name and save
What are the differences between a join and a relationship?
A relationship is:
- No up-front join type
- Automatic and context aware
- Flexible
- Only Queries Data from used fields in VIZ
How do you create a join?
- Drag Data Source on the canvas

How do you create relationships?
- Drag Second Data Source on to the canvas

How do you rename a data field?
- Click field name in the Data pane
- Hold Mouse button down until field name is shown in edit box
- Enter new name
How do you create an alias?
- In the Data pane, righ-click a dimension and select Aliases
- In the Edit Aliases, under Value (Alias) select a member and enter a new name
- Click ok to save changes
How to assign a geographic role to a data field?
- Data pane, click the “data type” icon next to the field
- Select Geographic role
- Select role
What happens when you assign a geograpgic role to a field?
Tableau creates two new measures: Latitude (generated) and Longitude (generated)
How do you change a fields data type?
- In a view
- Right-click the field in the data pane
- Choose “Change Data Type”
How do you change the default properties of a field?
- In the Data Pane
