LE Notes can include

What is the primary use of LE notes?
to aid in memory when preparing narrative reports and to prepare for court testimony
In additions to aiding memory LE notes also are commonly used as
a record of contacts and activities
What should one of the first entries in the notes be?
a reference identifier number such as a file number, case number or case name
What are some common elements of LE notes?
- date and time of entry
- location the notes were made
- people present
- page or item number
- body of facts: who, what, when, where ,why, how?
What are the 5 essential elements of a LE Narrative Report?
- Accurate
- Complete
- Concise
- Clear
- Objective (fair)
What are some common MOI elements?
- Case name and number
- date and time of interview
- location of interview
- other present
- name and title of interviewer
What is a common element found at the end of the MOI?
Investigator signature and date
What are written statements?
declarations of fact put into formal form (typed, written or printed) by an investigator or the person actually making the statement
What is a memorandum of activity?
narrative documents used to memorialize other types of LE activities
What is a sworn statement?
a statement made under oath or affirmation by the subject of the interview
What statements are most commonly taken by Federal investigators?
Unsworn statements

affidavit
