Doctrine of Creation Flashcards
Creation Ex Nihilo
Creation is when God brought nonbeing into being. He is distinct from His creation, but is still immanent within it.
Transcendence
God’s “otherness,” outside of the cosmos.
Immanence
God’s closeness, nearness.
God’s relation to creation
Orthodox view, materialism, pantheism, dualism, deism
Orthodox View
Creation Ex Nihilo.
Materialism
All that exists is material/creation.
Pantheism
God is within creation (often worship of nature).
Dualism
God and creation are against each others.
Deism
Idea that God set the world in motion, but after He created the world, He is hands off.
Old vs. Young Earth Creation
Gap, Flood, Ideal-Time, Age-Day, Pictorial-Day/Literal-Framework
Gap Theory
Gap between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2.
Flood Theory
The earth is only a few thousand years old, but it appears old because of the flood.
Ideal-Time Theory
God created a world that looks old.
Age-Day Theory
Says that ‘age’ is the proper translation of ‘Yom’
Pictorial-Day/Literal-Framework Theory
Insists that literary genres determine the meaning of the text. Doesn’t think about Genesis 1 scientifically.
