Dobutamine - Beta 1 agonist Flashcards
1
Q
MOA
A
Dopamine analogue. -Enantiomer is an alpha-1 agonist and a weak beta-1 agonist while the +enantiomer is an alpha-1 antagonist and a strong beta-1 agonist. It increases heart rate and contractility. The binding of alpha-1 receptors is mainly at high concentrations with vasoconstriction being the result

Q
Abs/Distrb/Elim
A
Short half life
Given IV
Can’t be given orally - metabolised too quickly so low bioavailability
Can’t be given chronically - due to tachphylaxis
3
Q

A
Short term therapeutic use of congestive heart failure and shock
4
Q
Adverse effects
A
Dysrhythmias
