Dna Study Guide Flashcards
What’s DNA’s function
Organic memory, can determine your features
What are the nitrogen basis found in DNA?
Thymen cytosine adenine guanine
MRNA function
A sequence of protines between dna and
Amino acids
What are the nitrogen bases in RNA
Adeinine uracil guanine cytosine
What are the three ways? DNA and RNA are different
1 DNA has thymen and RNA has uracil
2 DNA is single-stranded and RNA is double stranded
3 DNA stays in the nucleus. RNA moves around.
All tall girls cry is
DNA
All ugly guys cry is
RNA
What happens in the process of transcription?
Messenger RNA reads a sequence of DNA and transcribes it into RNA
What happens in translation?
A cell uses the info encoded in the messenger RNA to build a protein
What is a mutation and when can they occur?
A mutation is a change in the DNA sequence they can occur at any time
Substitution
A single nucleotide is replaced by another
Insertion
One or more nucleotide is added to the DNA sequence. This can cause a frame shift mutation leading to a different or non-functional protein.
Deletion
One or more nucleotides are removed from the DNA sequence. This can also lead to a frameshift mutation.
How can mutations impact proteins?
They can make them completely nonfunctional changed better fit them or harm them sometimes are neutral
Can mutations be passed to future generations
Yes, because of sex cells
