DNA Replication Flashcards

Q
Describe dna replication
A
Dna starts off as a double helix with 2 strands
Dna helicase unzips the strands by breaking h bonds between the strands
Both strands act as a tenplate
In the cytoplasm, there is free dna nucleotides which form complementary base pairs like a-t and c-g through h bonds
Dna polymerase forms phosphodiester bonds between dna nuceltides
This forms 2 identical copies of dna, each with one old strand and one new strand, therefore its a semiconservative repliaction
