- topoisomerase + helicase → unwinds DNA helix
- DNA polymerase + ligase → joins nucleotides + synthesises new strands

A
- one strand of DNA is conserved for each new strand made
- nucleotide code is conserved in the new DNA strands that are synthesised

- double stranded parental sequence is the template for two daughter strands

DNA polymerase
A
only adds new nucleotides in the 5’ to 3’ direction

leading strand
A
DNA polymerase moves towards replication fork + adds nucleotides on 3’ end continuously

A
DNA polymerase works away from the replication fork and copies in short chunks that are subsequently joined together
