Q

explain what happens in part 1 of DNA replication

A
  1. DNA replicates at the ORI (origin of replication)
  2. helicase (enzyme) unwinds the double helix by breaking the hydrogen bonds between complementary base pairs in parental strands
  3. parental strands are used as TEMPLATE

Q

explain what happens in part 2 of DNA replication

A
  1. free deoxyribonucleotides (A, C, G, T) are incorporated onto parental strands by complementary base pairing
  2. DNA polymerase catalyses the formation of phosphodiester bonds between deoxyribonucleotides
  3. 2 DNA molecules would have been formed, consisting of 1 parental and 1 daughter strand. the molecules wind to form a double helix
