DNA and the production of proteins Flashcards
What is the structure of DNA?
It is a double stranded helix held together by complementary base pairs.
What does DNA carry?
DNA carries genetic information in structures , called chromosomes, for making up proteins
What are the complementary bases?
Adenine is paired with thiamineand guanine is paired with cytozines
What does the base sequence determine?
It determines the amino acid sequence in proteins which determines its structure and function
What is messenger RNA?
It’s a molecule which carries a complementary copy of the genetic code from the DNA ro a ribosome where the protein is assembled by amino acids.
What are the name of the bonds that hold amino acids together?
They’re called peptide bonds
