DNA and inheitance Flashcards
What is DNA?
DNA is a chemical found in the nucleus of cells. It is a polymer made out of 2 strands and is a double stranded-helix molecule.
What is a chromosome?
A chromosome is a molecule containing DNA, which holds information about someone in. For example the colour of their eyes.
What is a gene?
A gene is a part of a chromosome that contains code for a particular protein. For example insulin.
What is an allele?
An alleles are different forms of a gene.
What is a genome?
A genome is the entire genetic material of that organism.
What is a protein?
Proteins are molecules that have a chain of amino acids, allowing them to carry out a function.
What is mitochondria?
The organelle in the cytoplasm. Where aerobic respiration occurs. It contains a small amount of DNA.
